Introduction to Direction Volume Rendering

One of the direct volume rendering techniques is texture mapping. The term texture has been used in many ways in the image literature. General speaking, anything that is evaluated at a point using only information local to that point is a texture. Local information includes the point's space location, the surface normal, and the directions and magnitudes of the partial derivatives of the surface of that point [9].
