VI. CONCLUSIONS

A new technique to resample curvilinear data sets has been presented. This new algorithm resamples a curvilinear grid by 3D scan converting the cells to determine which voxels (in the rectilinear space) they influence. As applied to the particular application of visualizing CFD data, the new method demonstrates far superior execution time performance (a factor of thirty), as well as improved image quality. More generally, this technique would be useful as a preprocessing step regardless of the particular rendering algorithm used.

Also apparent from the results is the new technique is not yet able to perform at interactive rates. The author is not aware of any systems which can interactively volume render a curvilinear grid of this size. Discussed in the next section are some possibilities to bring the algorithm to interactive speeds.
