KU Leuven has a full-time academic vacancy in the field of Operational Transport, Supply Chain, and Production Systems. We are looking for internationally oriented candidates with an excellent research and teaching record in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), operational control and industrial management.

Distributed and central coordination, control and optimization of multiple decision agents within and across the physical-flow network in real time

Multi-agent systems, tradable permits and real-time auctions, (reverse) game theory, model-predictive control, human/hardware-in-the-loop simulations

Operational digital twin solutions for physical-flow networks and their interactions with interconnected subdomains (smart grids, storage and distribution, economy, physical internet, weather and environmental conditions, e-governance, social activity system, smart buildings, infrastructure management, environmental management, disaster response management, water management, urban mining,…)

Duties

Research

You develop a research program dedicated to developing, applying and integrating innovative solutions for the dynamic control, optimization, and coordination of operations in physical-flow networks and multi-agent systems in supply chain, distribution, (reverse) logistics, production, public transport, (multimodal traffic).

Beyond the level of proof of concept, your research aims at developing scalable, interoperable operational solutions that can be integrated in practice, allowing for close collaboration for product development with the ICT and ITS industry.

You set up and maintain a solid national and international network, collaborations in academia, and can acquire research funding for joint national and international research projects with different academic partners, governments and companies.

You supervise PhD researchers and take responsibility for their academic and professional development.


Education

Your educational tasks cover, also depending on your level of seniority and interest, on average 20% of your time and are situated in master of mobility and supply chain engineering, master of mechanical engineering.

Courses under your responsibility will be a mixture of specialized master courses in the field of the vacancy and more general courses in the field of industrial engineering. The exact course allocation will be based on your experience and specific profile, and in discussion with the other staff members of the department.

You develop your teaching in accordance with KU Leuven’s vision on activating and researched-based education and make use of the possibilities for the educationalist professionalization offered by the faculty and the university. You also contribute to the pedagogic project of the faculty/university through the supervision of master theses and as a promoter of PhD students.

You are willing to provide scientific, societal, industrial and internal services.
