EurAI annually sponsors a specialized Artificial Intelligence course called
the Advanced Course on AI (ACAI). EurAI invites member societies to submit
proposals for organizing the 20th Advanced Course on AI (ACAI-2023).

>From this year EurAI wants to make the ACAI school to be part of a larger
European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI), structured
following the successful model developed by ESSLLI. See attached
description for more details. For this reason, the proposals for organizing
ACAI and simultaneously hosting ESSAI will be preferred.

The school can take place any time in Summer or early Autumn 2023 and
should bear on a subfield of AI. Priority will be given to subfields that
have not been represented at recent ACAIs. Here are pointers to the four
most recent editions of ACAI:

- ACAI-22, Barcelona, Spain, Explainable AI (joined with EU ICT48 TAILOR
Summer School) <https://myevent.upc.edu/77336>

- ACAI-21, Berlin, Germany, Human-Centered AI <
https://www.humane-ai.eu/event/acai2021/>

- ACAI-19, Chania, Crete, AI for Multi-Agent Worlds <http://acai2019.tuc.gr/
>

- ACAI-18, Ferrara, Italy, Statistical Relational AI <
http://acai2018.unife.it/>

A typical edition of ACAI is one week long and is usually held between July
and September (exceptions possible). Previous editions of ACAI attracted
around 100 students, this year, being part of ESSAI we expect quite a few
more. The program consists of 20-30 tutorials (you should form a scientific
committee to decide on the scientific program). The local organizers should
provide lunch and coffee breaks. The aim is to keep registration, travel,
and accommodation costs low. A social event is usually also part of ACAI.

Please provide a concise PDF document addressing the above points, in
particular, please answer the following questions regarding the event:

● Is the proposal for organizing ACAI and hosting ESSAI? or ACAI as a
stand-alone event?
● Names of the organizers
● Description of the topic
● Tentative list of lecturers
● EurAI member society supporting the application
● What would be possible dates for the summer school?
● How do you plan to advertise the summer school?
● A tentative registration fee, estimate of costs, and break-even of
the event.
● Why would you/your group be a good host for the summer school?
● Will your host institution support the school, e.g., by providing
free/cheap lecture rooms?
● What are the benefits of the location (costs, reachability,
attractiveness for students, social events,...)

The organizers should include a plan for holding the course remotely in
case traveling will still be limited during the event dates.

EurAI shall provide a one-time gift of €6000 (for ACAI+ESSAI 2023) to help
cover the cost of organizing ACAI+ESSAI. The Organizing Committee is
obligated to provide EurAI with a proposal for the registration fee for
ACAI+ESSAI for approval by EurAI before posting this publicly. The proposal
should include a list of any registration fee waivers for invited speakers,
etc. EurAI will provide travel grants worth between €250 and €750 each, up
to a total of no more than €12000, to students participating in ACAI+ESSAI.
The EurAI eligibility rules as published on the EurAI web pages apply. Any
surplus resulting from ACAI+ESSAI is to be split between EurAI, the
Organizing Committee, and the Local Society. The surplus is divided 50% to
EurAI, 25% to the Organizing Committee, and 25% to the Local Society.
Losses, if any, would be distributed according to the same percentages.

Proposals should be sent as a single pdf file to Giuseppe De Giacomo <
degiacomo at diag.uniroma1.it>.
The deadline is November 15, 2022.

 Kind regards,
