Deadline for applications: 21 February 2022

Job description
----------------

You will work on an exciting project on Hybrid-Intelligence, which
is funded by a 10 year Gravitation Grant from the Dutch Ministry of
Education, Culture and Science and brings together many prominent AI
researchers in the Netherlands
(https://www.hybrid-intelligence-centre.nl/). Hybrid Intelligence (HI)
is the combination of human and machine intelligence, expanding human
intellect instead of replacing it. HI takes human expertise and
intentionality into account when making meaningful decisions and
performing appropriate actions, together with ethical, legal and
societal values. The vision of the project is to design Hybrid
Intelligent systems, an approach to Artificial Intelligence that puts
humans at the centre, changing the course of the ongoing AI
revolution.

This position will serve two purposes:

- contribute to shaping Hybrid Intelligence as an
internationally-recognized area of research: A key goal of this
PostDoc position is to scientifically investigate Hybrid
Intelligence and contribute toward establishing it as a research
field. Your role in the project will be to lead the effort to
develop a methodology to identify the levels of hybrid intelligence,
design the metrics or processes to measure or assess them, and
create use-cases to demonstrate different levels.

- contribute to the activities of the Hybrid-Intelligence Consortium
in establishing and supporting synergies among the individual projects
towards the consortium’s goals: The Hybrid Intelligence program
consists of many smaller projects that are taken by PhDs and PostDocs
to develop Hybrid Intelligence. We aim that the developed
methodologies can be used to evaluate how well these projects provide
solutions for hybrid intelligence as well as design new use-cases,
scenarios or datasets to bring out the hybrid character of individual
projects and establish synergies between them. In order to facilitate
this, you will interact frequently with the consortium members. These
interactions will include regular research meetings and will lead to
co-authored papers.

This postdoc position will be based in the Department of Information
and Computing Sciences of Utrecht University. You will be part of a
dedicated group of researchers from different universities that work
in a consortium. The group currently consists of Pınar Yolum (UU),
Davide Grossi (RUG), Catholijn Jonker (TU Delft), Pradeep Murukannaiah
(TU Delft)and Catharine Oertel (TU Delft). Your position will be
within a team at the heart of the consortium that has the ambition to
deliver concrete hybrid intelligent output gathered from the broad
range of running projects.

The position is available from March 1st, 2022 (starting date flexible).

Qualifications
--------------
- You have a PhD in a computational field such as Artificial
Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Cognitive Science,
Philosophy of the AI with a strong interest in participatory design OR
you have a PhD in Design Science or a similar field with strong
programming and research methodology skills
- You possess good communication skills and are able to work with
people of different backgrounds
- You have demonstrated your ability to publish and present your work
at international venues
- You are passionate about working with researchers and end users
- You have an interest in formulating vision, roadmaps, and
methodologies for developing and evaluating Hybrid Intelligence
systems. Previous experience with meta-analysis research is a plus

Offer
-----
- A chance to work on an exciting new project together with many
prominent AI researchers in the Netherlands;
- A position for 3 years;
- A full-time gross salary, depending on previous qualifications and
work experience, that ranges between €2.846 and €4.490 per month
(scale 10 Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities);

- A pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible
employment conditions based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch
Universities. In addition to the employment conditions laid down in
the CAO for Dutch Universities, Utrecht University has a number of its
own arrangements. For example, there are agreements on professional
development, leave arrangements and sports. We also give you the
opportunity to expand your terms of employment via the Employment
Conditions Selection Model. This is how we like to encourage you to
continue to grow.
