WHAT IS TOOLTALK
The ToolTalk service enables independent applications to communicate with
each other without having direct knowledge of each other. Applications
create and send ToolTalk messages to communicate with each other. The
ToolTalk service receives these messages, determines the recipients, and
then delivers the messages to the appropriate applications.
ToolTalk is designed to make it easy to put a messaging interface on
any application, regardless of whether the application
- runs only on Solaris or also on other popular UNIX platforms;
- is multi-threaded or single-threaded;
- has a command-line or graphical user interface;
- installs signal handlers;
- is an RPC server;
- uses its own event loop, or that of a window system toolkit.
