UMBC's Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department is seeking applications for tenure-track Assistant and Associate Professor positions in Computer Engineering. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. The successful candidate is expected to establish a strong research program in his/her area of interest and to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in Computer Engineering.
The successful candidate's research should complement the activities of the ECE group within the department including signal processing and communications, VLSI design, sensor technology and systems, optical communications and optical networks, and photonics and opto-electronics. Preference will be given to applicants whose research is in the hardware aspects of real-time signal processing, high performance computing and networking, and secure hardware design/development.
The CSEE department is a research-oriented, combined Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering department, with 38 full time faculty. The department has 800 undergraduates, 211 MS students, and 118 PhD students and had 6 million dollars in research expenditures in FY 09. CSEE faculty at UMBC are partners in the NSF Engineering Research Center on Mid-InfraRed Technologies for Health and the Environment (MIRTHE). UMBC leads the newly established collaborative NSF Industry University Cooperative Research Center on Hybrid Muliticore Productivity Research. UMBC ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report among up-and-coming national universities and #4 in undergraduate teaching at national universities. UMBC is strategically located in the Baltimore-Washington corridor, and is close to many important federal agencies.
