CMSC 671 - Student Presentation Schedule

Fall 2001

• Presentations are to be no more than 10 minutes long.
• You should prepare 3-6 slides on your topic, thinking carefully about what information needs to be on the slides and how best to present that information. Don't overdo it - 10 minutes isn't that long.
• In some cases, I've provided additional material beyond what will be read by the rest of the class. (Readings for later presentations will be added as we go through the semester.)
• If you have any questions about the content or format of the presentations, or if you think you need a longer slot for your topic, please feel free to talk to Prof. desJardins.
• Acetate (physical) slides are preferred, to reduce the likelihood of technical problems. You may also bring a laptop with a data projector output and use the projector in the classroom, or you may e-mail PowerPoint slides to Prof. desJardins at least two hours before class - she will put them on her laptop and project them for you.
• Presented material is fair game for the homeworks and exams.
• Your grade on your presentation will primarily depend on how well prepared you are, and secondarily on your presentation style. The purpose of this requirement is to give you an opportunity to practice making a presentation on a technical topic (and to let you see what it's like to teach a class).
• Students will be asked to informally assess the other students' presentations for clarity and style.
